Neurology is the study of the structure, functioning and diseases of the nervous system (including the brain, spinal cord, the peripheral nerves, and muscles).
Neurology is a medical specialty dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Specifically, it deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease involving the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle. The corresponding surgical specialty is neurosurgery. It deals with the surgical problems affecting the brain, spine, peripheral nerves and the arteries of the neck. A neurologist is a physician who has undergone additional training to recognize, accurately diagnose and treat disorders of the nervous system.
